5 Things You Might Not Know About….Paul McGann

Originally cast as Sharpe in the widely popular Sharpe series on ITV, but had to be dropped from the role after breaking his leg playing football a few days into shooting the first episode.

Along with his three brothers (all of whom are also actors) released a single called Shame About The Boy.

Reportedly found out about the starring role in the 1996 DW: TV Movie from Tim Curry, who he knew from working together on The Three Musketeers (1993). Curry was up for the titular role and asked Paul how he might play the character if he were auditioning, but when Curry had to bow out due to scheduling issues, McGann put his name forward

Only got his driver’s license a few days before he was to film a driving scene in the 1987 film Withnail and I.

Was a dark horse contender for the role of James Bond in GoldenEye, but was rejected for looking too young.
